Remarque lived through 1898-1970. He became famous for his war novels. In 1916 Remarque studied at the University of Münster, but had to enlist in the German army at the age of 18. This book was originally title in German I'm Westen Nichts Neues. In 1929 Remarque became famous with his novel Im Westen Nichts Neues (All Quiet on the Western Front), which depicted the horrors of war from the point of view of the ordinary soldiers. He emigrated to the United States in 1939. He moved to Hollywood and met the actress Paulette Goddard, whom he married. He died in September 25, 1970.
